Still sick

Noah has bronchitis and an ear infection. I'm still getting over my cold, and now Daniel is getting sick. We're all being troopers, especially Noah. He coughed all last night, but never cried or fully woke up. He's napping now, and when he gets up, we'll go pick up his prescriptions. Ugh.

Sick day

Noah and I are both sick, though I feel like I'm about to pass out and Noah is playing happily with Daddy. Mother's Day was perfect. Noah got me a card and Daniel made cinnamon rolls and mimosas for breakfast. Then I met Jenny for pedicures and shopping at La Cantera. Like, I said, perfect.

Noah is saying "mama" all the time now, though he says it to refer to both me and Daniel, so it's hard to know who he's talking about. Melissa at daycare called to say Noah didn't feel well when he woke up from his nap and kept saying, "mama, mama." He's also doing sign language for "more," and saying "muh, muh," which is adorable but not so helpful when we don't know what he wants more of.

I'm happy to say Noah has been injury-free for two days....though he's still got about 20 minutes before he goes to bed. I don't want to jinx it.

Hurricane Noah

I had intended to focus this post on one of the many typical (and by that I mean messy) toddler experiences we had today. There was breakfast at Taco Cabana, where Noah covered the floor around our table with potato and egg breakfast tacos and cheerios. And then in the afternoon when I was trying to get dressed, I turned around to see the floor covered with Q-tips, four of them hanging out of Noah's mouth. And right after that, he decided it would be fun to stick his hand in the toilet bowl and splash around. Yes, this is all in one day.

But just before bed time, Noah took a spill off his push car and tore his frenulum, the piece of skin that hangs down in between your lip and gum. Blood was everywhere, and of course he was screaming. Thank goodness Daniel was home or I probably would have called 911. The bleeding stopped within a few minutes and Daniel, after doing a cursory exam, was able to calm him down by reading to him from his favorite airplane book (thank you San Antonio Public Library). He was smiling and acting like himself by the time we put him down, but I am just heartsick. Seeing him injured and bleeding like that was awful. I'm still reeling.

There was a high point to the day, though. Noah says several words, but has been slow with the 'mama' and 'dada.' He's been able to say both sounds/words for many months, but until recently, he hadn't associated either word with us. However, in the past couple of weeks, he started saying "mama" if Daniel would point to me and ask, "Who's that?" But today, when he wandered into my closet and couldn't find me when he came back out to the bedroom, I heard him call, "mama? mama?" It was beautiful and of course made my heart melt. What fantastic Mother's Day present.

Biting

Noah got bitten again at daycare. It is the fourth time in less than two months. Needless to say, we're very frustrated. The bite today was pretty hard. He, of course, is fine, at least for now, but I feel horrible. What must he think when another child takes a chomp out of his arm or shoulder? And I'm worried it's only a matter of time before he starts biting other kids. And yet another reason to feel guilty about putting him in daycare.

Routines

Daniel had to work tonight, so Noah and I were on our own. I decided to try putting him to sleep at 7:15 p.m., about 15 minutes earlier than normal because we've been having to wake him up every morning to get ready for school. We ate dinner and took a bath, and rather than let him run around and get amped up, I decided to have extended story time. We read his new airplane book from the library about three times (he's obsessed with airplanes and all modes of transportation), and then his Noah's Ark book from Grammy and Grandpa, and then, of course, Good Night Moon. Then I told him I loved him three times like I always do, and then told him to have sweet dreams.

Now normally when we put Noah in his crib, he finds his pacifier, his hippo lovey, rolls on his belly, sticks his but in the air and goes right to sleep. Like clockwork. Except tonight, I moved the clock up and he was having none of it. I walked out of his room and within a minute he was crying. I walked back into his room and his lovey and pacifier are on the floor and he's crying like his heart is broken. Two more times I had to go back in his room until he finally went to sleep...at 7:30 p.m.

Monkey see, monkey do

Noah can make monkey noises now. He also climbs all over everything like a monkey, so i guess it's appropriate.

No more bed time

Noah is finally big enough to crawl onto our bed, but not quite stable enough to walk on our bed. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop him from doing it. Tonight, neither Daniel nor I were quick enough to catch him as he tried to run across our bed and he flipped off the side. He bumped his head pretty badly and cut his lip, but was probably more scared than anything. I cuddled him in his rocking chair and let him have his pacifier and his hippo lovey while I read to him. That seemed to make it all better. So needless to say, no more play time on the bed.
